Music Perception Study
Via Johndan, a music perception study. You listen to pairs of tunes and then answer whether you think they're the same or slightly different. I got 22 out of 30 right, which appears to be about average (random guessing would yield a score of 15, according to the researchers).

Fascinating stuff
I got 29 out of 30 and am gnashing my teeth because I have a good idea which one I flubbed up on. I wonder if there's a poetry/ music connection, or maybe it was piano? Choir? Tapping on the steering wheel picking up kids?
Trained ear?
Wow! I am pretty underdeveloped when it comes to music, so I'm not surprised at my score. Those differences were really subtle, weren't they? I have an untrained ear, but it sounded like sometimes the differences were so slight, like the melody was exactly the same except for one note that was a flat instead of a sharp.
I have a cousin who's a music professor, and I was thinking about sending it to him. Of course to him it would probably be a joke, much like the quantitative section of the GRE is to prospective graduate students in math.
