Halloween Movies
I don't know about you, but tonight I’m just going to be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters and sitting around the house watching scary movies. I thought, then, that it might be fun to talk about what movies are the best, worst, etc.
Best (in no particular order):
1. Ju-On (this is the original Japanese version of “The Grudge”)
2. Nightmare on Elm St. parts 1 and 3
3. The Ring
4. Halloween part IV
5. Friday the 13th
Completely Unimpressed By:
1. The Blair Witch Project
2. the Scream trilogy
3. Fear Dot Com
So Bad They’re GREAT:
1. Child’s Play (all of them)
2. Children of the Corn
3. Ice Cream Man
4. Hollow Man
What do you think?

The Classics
You know I gotta go with the classics in the "Best" category:
1. Rosemary's Baby
2. The Exorcist
and run don't walk to check out the super-awesome original 1963 version of
3. The Haunting.
Personally, I liked The Blair Witch Project a lot, but mostly for that very-scary-by-implication shot at the end. And I'd say if you want (very) slow existential dread, you can't do better than Tarkovsky's "Stalker."

The Wicker Man
Excellent choices from Mike!
How about "The Wicker Man"? Original version from 1973 with Christopher Lee.
h'ween 4!
okay, so i'm completely behind in my reading because of a knock-down-drag-out cold that we passed around from kid to grownup to kid to grownup...
but halloween 4! you might be our most exciting convert...owen hosted his now-annual showing of h'ween 4 at midnight at the alamo drafthouse here in town. had a tall friend in a garage suit and michael meyers mask stalking the theater. gave his spiel on why it's the best horror sequel. a blast.
woohoo!
the best
Gotta agree with Mike re: The Exorcist. I don't think there will ever be a movie as frightening. The Shining's a distant #2, imho.
The Exorcist should be
The Exorcist should be number one! I was so traumatized by this movie when I was younger that I haven't the guts to watch it again. Even the sequels I couldn't bear to watch! Even though I heard they're lame sequels. Still, the image of Linda Blair as possessed haunts me still!
