Baby Hats: Getting Easier
I finished another one a few minutes ago. They're easy to make now that I've gotten the hang of knitting on double-pointed needles:
Here's the finished product:
These umbilical cord hats have been a big hit with my friends who are mothers, but now I'm ready to move on to an adult hat. For myself. Made from some gorgeous crimson merino wool yarn I scored on clearance.

Cool. I love those baby hats that make the infant look like a vegetable; the color of this one makes me think of squash. :)
What are the dark-colored loops in the first picture? Are you using rubber bands for stitch markers?
Hats are great. :)
Ponytail holders
Yeah, I use ponytail holders for stitch markers. Oh, and I have an old Swatch guard that works pretty well for that too.
What the...
What the heeUUl is that? I can't believe that Rana who was bitching about being forced to participate in an office shower is championing your baby hat.
Well, I think it's great that you're knitting. What you really need is to sew in a strap underneath (don't worry about the government; they've screwed effective children's clothing for years) so that a new mom, in snatching it up from the top, could still retain the infant in the original disposition. Chin strap: there's your angle, although you'd be in violation of something or another.

Why? I like knitting, and I like babies. I also don't mind showers held by friends for friends outside of work.
I don't like involuntary attendance at events held for the purpose of giving gifts to mere acquaintances, especially if accompanied by silly games that make you look stupid in front of people you don't know well, and if said event takes away from time you'd rather spend in some other activity.
I like the use of the hairbandies; I'll have to remember that trick.
Oh, I just thought it was fun
Oh, I just thought it was funny. I wouldn't want to attend a shower of work at someone I don't know well or care about anyway (and I probably wouldn't). But I find it humorous that you'll champion baby-knitting hats when you don't want to listen to people talk about breast-pumps. As if the hats go without the other.

Hee. Actually, it's more like I don't want to listen to _some_ people talk about breast pumps. I can be pretty earthy if I'm with the right crowd. This wasn't. ;)
