Eye Contact

Ken Smith is collecting bloggers who do and who do not maintain eye contact on their blogs. I am listed as an eye-contact blogger, as is Jill. Michael Bérubé does not make eye contact.

Now I want to join in: Liz, Scott, Tracy, Lessig, Siva, Logie, and Becky make eye contact, as does Amy (I took that picture!); Jason Nolan, Ron Silliman, Jason Shim, and Mike do not. I guess that last one is debatable, but I don't feel that the eye contact is direct. This phenomenon is not particularly important, of course, but fun to observe nonetheless.

Hmm. Am I wrong in detecting a slight gender skew here?

(fwiw, On my "real" webpage, I'm looking right at the visitor, but if I ever put a pic on my blog it'd be a 50-50 choice.)

I don't make eye contact. Never have, never will. So I'll just gender-integrate the avoiders, shall I then?

Eye Contact

I didn't consciously decided to but I did.

Indeed.

I guess so! But I don't think I've ever seen a picture of you. I'm not quite sure what that is in your Technorati profile and Orkut profile. :? :)

I do

Took a few minutes for me to figure this thing out, but it did give me a chance to browse Michael Berube's blog.

I make eye contact. You have to check "My introduction" for the pic.

Is the working hypothesis that male bloggers are shy?

I think I've seen that photo. (Snoopy me :) ) Very straightforward and friendly.

It's a pika, otherwise known as a rock coney. Small, tubby, industrious plant-eating rodent beastie that mostly keeps to itself except for the shrill calls it makes. The North American variety lives in the northern Rockies, where I made its acquaintance during a field-geology field trip to the Grand Tetons.

Yeah (sheepish grin), sorry for being intrusive.

Interesting post... I feel comfortable posting an eye contact picutre in the about me section, but I'm not quite sure what holds me back from posting one on the front page. It'd be interesting to see how many people use direct eye contact pics for instant messengers...
