Big Fish!
I just just watching Big Fish and it made me think of you. Have you seen it? If not, you really must -- it's my current favorite southern movie.
Southern Movies
Oooh, for southern movies I like Fried Green Tomatoes, Steel Magnolias, and Hope Floats. I've been meaning to watch Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood but haven't gotten around to it. How sad is Big Fish? Crying buckets sad, like In the Bedroom, or welling up at certain scenes sad, like Forrest Gump? [Don't you DARE make fun of me! Hiss! Forrest Gump is not my favorite movie by any means, but that scene with Forrest and Jenny in the reflecting pool at the Washington monument gets me every time. Sniff.]

I don't generally cry at movies, but the very end of Big Fish gets me every time. And here's the thing: I don't know why. There's nothing about it that should trigger the deluge, but it just does. The rest of it's fine, though.
One of the only other movies that consistently makes me cry is Driving Miss Daisy. (Also southern!) When Hoke feeds Daisy her pie at the end, it's all over for me.
Big Fish Tear Jerking
I LOVED Big Fish. I cried at the end because of the connection finally established between father and son, the trust and his belief and transformation to his father's most favorite past time (telling), was just so overwhelmingly, well to be candidly corny, *poignant*. Overall, it's not a tear-jerker, though, C. You should watch it. I saw Fried Green Tomatoes just last week (for the umpteenth time) and bawled buckets (again). My absolute favorite cryfest movie is Terms of Endearment. I get teared up just thinking about her saying good-bye to Teddy. Argh, better go back and read Krista's list of lately viewed funny movies. ;)
