Hats for Friends, and Babies of Friends

A couple of days ago, I finished the hat I was knitting for a friend of mine. I had intended to do the whole thing in seed stitch, but it was taking up too much yarn, so I decided to switch to stockinette. The result:

I know this sounds strange, but I think this hat is a little too feminine for my friend's taste. I can't see him in it. So I'm thinking about giving the hat to someone else, or keeping it, and starting another one for him. I bought some more yarn today, similar to the kind I've used in the above hat. I think I'll make a ribbed hat instead.

I also have more friends' babies to knit for, so I'm making more umbilical cord hats:

Knitting is soothing, something I can do while I do something else (last night I knitted that baby hat while watching the original Stepford Wives with Amy), but boy, do I need to do more syllabus preparation and all manner of other work instead. :o

Your hats

That is so cool. I wish I had the patience to do this. I love the blue hat.

You want it?

:D I'll be happy to send it to you. Like I said, the hat is striking me as feminine, not well suited to the guy I knitted it for. I'm making him another hat anyway. Seriously, if you email me your address, I'll send it right to you.

Want it?

You bet, I love it. Just sent you an email. You're a commerce!

working in yarn ends

Great! Tonight I'll work in the yarn ends, and I'll get it in the mail to you tomorrow. :)

The Blue Hat

Kewl! I'm very excited. I've never worn anything knitted by anyone. :)

Rana

I agree; the hat does look feminine. I think it's the combination of the seed stitch and the somewhat gathered top. Maybe a ribbed edge would be more "manly"?

Oh, and if some of your work is reading, try propping the book up and knitting; I got started on my mom's sweater when I was studying for my orals this way! :)

Michelle -- you'll have to post a picture of you in the hat; it looks like it'd go with your eyes!

Blogging the Hat

You know me, R. It'll definitely happen.

Hey, I just saw Gavin DeGraw singing on the Ellen show and he wore a hat that looked strikingly similar to this, except it was purple. Oh well, too bad if he's setting a new trend, the hat's in the mail! And of course, I can't recognize all those knitting subtleties so perhaps it looked similar to only my ignorant eye. ;)

The Blue Hat

It arrived! I love it! The photo's up! Thanks. :)

Blue Hat

Love your blue hat, is there a pattern?

Blue Hat

I love the blue hat too. I see someone asked if a pattern is available for that hat, but I don't see a reply. Is there a pattern? I would love to make it. Thanks!

Pattern for Blue Hat

Aw, sorry. I didn't use a pattern; I just did seed stitch the first couple of inches and then switched to stockinette. Maybe I can reverse-engineer a pattern and post it.
