Self-Portraits, Age 19

Eleven years ago, when I was first getting into photography, I used to dress up in bizarre costumes, gather up props, take my camera and tripod out to random locations like this old abandoned warehouse, and take self-portraits. Doesn't the melancholy shine through? :)

Those are quite compelling. Where were you living at the time? Where did that dress come from? I love the background in all three: the mattress and the dilapidated building and I always *love* black and white. It's so much more dramatic.

I find that I look back on periods of my life with an increasing disconnection of my younger identity. Sometimes aging is more difficult because of that and sometimes it's easier.

But it's always good to look back. Hey, *we're* not going to turn to salt.

Re: Photography

I was living in Florence, Alabama at the time, and the dress came from a thrift store. Well, really it was a dig store--ever been to one of those? They can't be bothered to put the clothes up on hangers, so they dump the clothes on big tables and on the floor, and you have to dig to find good stuff. I found that dress and decided it would look great with my Viking helmet.

Glad you like the photographs! I have mixed feelings on the disconnection from my younger self. I'm going to reflect on it more, though, and do more scanning/posting of old photos. There are beaucoup; I was a prolific photographer once. :)
