The New Song (Doe Maar)
Anyone checked out my new song? Doe Maar is (was) a Dutch band from the 1980s; from what I gather, they're your basic 80s synthesizer-fabulous band, like, oh I don't know, Devo or maybe the Thompson Twins, but with more mainstream popularity in the Netherlands. It seems like they were about as popular as Duran Duran.
If you've listened to the song and you know about my love of happy melodies, you know why I like it; I also like how parts of the song sound almost proto-ska. I'm told the song is about a man who meets a woman, they fall in love, and they're so blissfully happy that they feel young again. The English translation of the title is "since a day or two." I could have this all wrong, though -- maybe Frank will be kind enough to correct me if I don't have my facts straight. :)
Now I want to hear some Thompson Twins...

Music Mania
I was the biggest Duran Duran junkie. Nick was my heartthrob of choice. They were the Darlings of that first MTV craze. Man, to be that young and have that sort of undeniable gushing hero worship.
I think I'm going to watch that 13 Going on 13 movie.

loved the song
Wow, I had just sat down at my comp after drinking a relaxing cup of "Sleepy Time" tea and that song really woke me up. I enjoyed the whole "feel good" vibe.
I like the new "glam" pic as well, nice to see a different side every now and then.

Butterflies in the head of an old man
:-D
Wow, to find a Dutch song "promoted" on the Net...
I once took some music from this band with me when I stayed in England. The South-African guys I lived with hated the band! I, like most Dutch people do, like it very much. Most Dutch know it under the title: "She's mine (Ze is van mij)"
Actually the song isn’t about “two people in love who feel young again”. It's about a guy who's 32 years old and in love since "a day or two". He finds it a weird experience that at his age he feels the butterflies again, the shaking of his legs, the experience that he is the one she's interested in. He almost forgot how what the feeling was all about.
Out here....
Old at 32!
Yikes. Thanks for the clarification, M'leen! I was getting my information from someone I IM'ed with years ago. Hey, I have "Nederwiet" too; ever heard that one? :) The person I IM'ed with told me what THAT one was about.
more popular
I don't know how popular Duran Duran were, but Doe Maar were very popular in the Netherlands (I tried to find an explanation in the Wikipedia article I wrote about them). Their success was part of the reason they stopped, because they couldn't handle it.
I wouldn't be surprised if most people my age know a lot of their lyrics by heart.
Let's see:
Since a day or two
Butterflies in my head
Since a day or two
In a nice daze
I almost forgot
How it feels to be in love
[From this point on I had to look it up]
I am looking around me
Through rose-tinted glasses
Been alone for too long
Stood still perhaps
How could I have known
My world was so small
It's a bit weird though;
Thirty-two years
Shaking on my legs
When she's gone
She is she is mine
She is she is mine
She is mine
[And "Nederwiet":]
This is a song about a plant
Not just any plant
But a pretty plant
A nice-smelling plant
A useful plant!
This is the song about the
Canabis Sativa Hollandica
Also called: Dutch Weed
[And then it continues as a manual of how to grow your own marihuana, how to harvest it, and especially how to enjoy it. Did I break any laws so far?]
Curious song
What a curious song of Doe Maar. Speaking about Marihuana
