A Bugmenot for CultureCat

Yesterday on Drupal's support forum I proposed the idea of a bugmenot user account as a way for would-be commenters to avoid having to register. If you're not logged in right now, you should be able to see "register or login to post comments with username: nospam password: person" under each post and comment. I hope everyone who's not registered on a Drupal site will make good use of it.

bugmenot for privacy

Great name, bugmenot.

I read it and thought of ID theft.

Could I put a bugmenot notice on credit reports, so that if anyone who was tempted to give me a credit card couldn't while I had a bugmenot hold on credit report.

At first I thought, it would be great if bugmenot prevented them from even sending some form to be filled out for a credit card, which form could be swipped from my mailbox (which is at the end the driveway, on post).

But ccard offers don't come before checking credit reports; they come from mailing lists. It's impossible to scrub your name from all the lists out there that you're likely on, but why can't I as a consumer put on hold on any more credit being issued in my name via the credit agencies that financial institutions use to check my credit before giving out credit in my name and to my ss #?

ok but

I think this is a great idea, but if everyone uses the same account name/pswd isn't it possible for a spammer to exploit? And on the flip side, wouldn't not using the same name/pswd on every Drupal site make ti pretty much useless, since you'd have to remember a name/pswd for every site? Maybe people have other reasons for not wanting to register?

Sorry -- I accidentally poste

Sorry -- I accidentally posted twice (there seems to be some problem with the post button on my end) and I don't seem to be able to delate so I've edited it into this!
