My friend Cristina told me about an old Romanian saying--she said it in Romanian, and then said that the English translation isn't exact, but loosely is "Out of poo, you can make a whip." Hahaha! Too bad we don't have sayings that good in English.

The Happy Tutor would be charmed, I'm certain. And I suppose it makes for some interesting variant expressions, especially to one exclamation of surprise you sometimes hear in the South (as I'm sure you know, Clancy): "Well I'll be whipped in. . ." :)
Defintely an expression to remember.
