More Books

Because I'm too busy to write a real post. Well, that and I can't keep my computer on for more than about ten minutes at a time. After that it starts making this awful siren noise (yes, I've ordered a new CPU and heatsink).

Anyone remember these? (More below the fold.)

The one below might be my next banner image:

Oh, yes.

I remember that Mulroney-jawed spaceman. I always found those choose-your-own-adventure books somehow unsatisfying, though; each possible story was pretty short, and many of the alternatives seemed downright stupid. (Book: "Do you want to try to land on the black hole?" Me: "Um... no, I don't think that's a good idea, but I've already explored all the other possibilities. Okay." Book: "You died. The end.")

And I have a cousin who is one of the many people who write under the name of Francine Pascal. He sometimes slips family in-jokes into the Sweet Valley Twins series.

Dude!

I highly recommend you use the new SWH design, that's awesome. As for Choose Your Own Adventure, I did a writing exercise with a group of seventh graders last year based on CYOA, and NONE of them had heard of it. Even worse, I couldn't find any of the books, so there I am, attempting to explain how it worked...it still turned out fun, though.

Journey to Ithaca

I seem to remember the thingu

I seem to remember the thingummy jawed space man. They must have translated his exploits into Dutch or something.

A great find I did a couple of years ago was of a Nintendo CYOA book, starring the Mario bros. I have a couple of scans on my text adventure website (page text in Dutch, scans in the international language of coloured pixel).

(Can you do a find?)

CYOA have been placed online

CYOA have been placed online a few times. I remember reading them as a kid, but I never could be bothered to try all the trees, so I just read them in order and figured out what related to what.
